He was a remarkable man whom one was very happy to know. He was always curious, always challenging conventional wisdom, always encouraging me and others to think, to push ourselves, to grow. I loved that about him. He liked to help young people, as he did me. But he never did it in a patronizing way to reflect on himself; nor did he push and bully one. He was just so engagingly curious and challenging and at the same time supportive. Wonderful combination. I learned so much from his political, analytical wisdom. But more than that, I liked the way he not only taught but also challenged one to challenge one’s self. I grieve with all of you but as you noted, he lived life well.
